Donovan is one of the most significant acts of the folk scene of the sixties along with such artists as Bob Dylan, Simon and Garfunkel, and Crosby, Stills, and Nash. He had one gold album with several others being hits. He had numerous hit singles with Mellow Yellow going gold and Sunshine Superman being a chart-topper. In Mellow Yellow, people thought the line "Electrical banana is bound to be a sudden craze. Electrical banana is bound to be the very next phase." meant that you could get high from smoking banana peels. He combined psychedelic rock with folk rock. He was a part of the British Invasion going on at the time. He was inducted by heartland rocker John Mellencamp.
