The Allman Brothers Band was one of the greatest bands of all time and a leader in the rise of Southern rock in the seventies along with Lynyrd Skynyrd and The Marshall Tucker Band. They were greatly successful, with several certified albums. They had three hit singles. They had two Grammys. They were noted as one of the pioneers of instrumental music. They were inducted their first year of eligibility. Member Gregg Allman went on to have a successful solo career. Their first live album was preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. They participated in the Woodstock silver anniversary concert. Member Duane Allman was a member of Derek and the Dominos, a shortlived project by Eric Clapton. One of their instrumentals is titled In Memory of Elizabeth Reed, after a gravestone from a local cemetery. They were inducted by country superstar Willie Nelson.
