Editing The Doors

The Doors were one of the greatest rock bands of all time, combining many genres and helping to develop rock during the innovative era going on in the sixties and seventies. Their styles ranged from psychedelic to jazzy and even a bit of blues. They were phenomenally successful, with all their albums going platinum up to Jim Morrison's death in 1971. He is a member of the "27 Club", a group of artists who died at that age that also includes [[The Jimi Hendrix Experience|Jimi Hendrix]] and [[Janis Joplin]]. This group would become an obsession of Kurt Cobain, frontman for grunge band [[Nirvana]], who became convinced that he would not become truly popular until he died at that age, leading to his suicide. The Doors were influential on goth bands like [[Joy Division]]. Their hit ''Break on Through'' had to be censored for radio play due to concerns over the line "She get high". The word "high" was edited out. It is difficult to find the original version even today. The song ''The End'' was used for the film ''Apocalypse Now''. It features an Oedipus Complex part. The song was parodied in the Saturday morning cartoon ''Animaniacs''. The Doors were inducted their first year of eligibility. After Morrison's death the band tried to continue on without him with little success. In the song ''L.A. Woman'' Morrison sings "Mr. Mojo Risin". This is an anagram of his name. They have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Their debut album was preserved in the National Recording Registry by the Library of Congress. ''Riders on the Storm'' is noted for its ambient effects which make it sound like a storm is brewing. Weird Al Yankovic parodied them with ''Craigslist. ''They were inducted by Eddie Vedder of grunge band [[Pearl Jam]].
